Cbus Super Stadium, Robina QLD

The Cbus Super Stadium, also know as Robina Stadium, is the home ground to the NRL's Gold Coast Titans and has a seating capacity of approximately 27,000.

During the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games it hosted Rugby 7's events and is currently used for a wide variety of sporting and corporate functions.

Our installer was tasked with the requirement to provide a system to enable maintenance crews to perform cleaning and repairs to the mega screen at the north east end of the stadium.

Fortunately, there was enough existing infrastructure to allow them to view the rear of the screen where they could properly assess the situation.

However the front of the screen offered no such provision for access and additionally was not load-bearing.

Solution

After careful consideration, it was decided the best approach was to tackle the installation in three stages. Kattsafe access platforms, rigid rail and needle systems were selected as the most suitable and practical solutions.

In the first part of the project a Kattsafe platform was needed to elevate workers to the top edge of the screen. As there was already an existing ladder system in place, a modular system, such as our access platforms, were needed to ensure they could be modified on-site to fit within the narrow space restrictions. For the final part of this stage, a hatch was inserted into the platform to enable access via a portable ladder from below.

Moving on to the next phase of the project was the installation of two rigid rail systems to span the top of the stadium's big screen. The system's capabilities mean that two operators will be able to use it at one time which, in the future, will offer significant cost and time savings for the venue provider.

The final stage saw the installation of two needle systems which would run off the rigid rail. Engineering was required to ensure the system design was compliant, functionally correct and would be able to carry the loads required.

Needle systems are traditionally used when there is access required over non load-bearing structures. They will spread the load to avoid any damage to the roof area and with the Kattsafe needle's telescopic boom, they can be adjusted to the required length and height.

The Cbus Super Stadium is now able to offer it's maintenance team safe and compliant access to their mega screen as and when necessary.
