Spanning more than 93,000m², this facility is the largest multi-storey temperature-controlled distribution centre in the Southern Hemisphere. Designed to strengthen Woolworths' supply chain, the two-storey facility handles up to 6,000 tonnes of fresh produce each day.

A project of this scale couldn't afford to take a laid-back approach to roof safety. The extensive amount of critical equipment stored on the roof is crucial to the controlled environments for the produce inside.
For the builder, Besix Watpac, the biggest challenge of delivering this large-scale facility wasn't just providing roof access; it was creating a compliant, scalable system that allows multiple trades to safely access critical rooftop equipment for decades, without compromising the roof structure, waterproofing, or operational efficiency.
The facility featured extensive HVAC equipment and solar systems, creating obstacles and changing access paths, which meant a bulky, traditional steel system would complicate the layout plans and provide unnecessary load on the structure.

Solution
With a roof of this scale, the priority was creating clear, compliant access routes to mechanical plant, refrigeration equipment and service areas without introducing unnecessary complexity or compromising the building envelope. We worked closely with AHSS and Besix Watpac to design an integrated access solution that made movement across the roof safer, more efficient and easier to maintain over the long term.
We provided a roof access package with over 1,600m of Walkway to traverse the entire roof space, installed seamlessly between the 7,000+ solar panels and additional rooftop units. Also included were our Anchor Points, Static Line and Guardrail for fall protection, and two large HVAC Platforms for storing the solar inverters and ductwork, all installed three months ahead of schedule.
