Introducing: Kattsafe industrial modular access

We’ve been manufacturing innovative modular access systems you can count on for over 10 years.
And now, we’re taking things to new heights with the introduction of our stair tower system, the first of our new industrial modular access range.

Made from high-strength aluminium and with more scalability in less footprint, this stair tower can go where others simply can’t.

Canon Australia Headquarters, Macquarie Park NSW

Located in Sydney's Macquarie Park, the Canon Australia Headquarters at The Park Estate is a purpose-built facility designed to reflect Canon's commitment to innovation, sustainability and high-performance workplace design.

Since opening in 2014, the building has showcased Green Star-rated design principles, with its striking glass façade playing a key role in both aesthetics and environmental performance.

The challenge

To maintain the building's presentation and support ongoing sustainability objectives, Canon required a safe and practical façade access solution that would allow regular maintenance and cleaning of the extensive glazed exterior.

The building's architecture created several access challenges for maintenance teams:

  • An expansive all-glass façade requiring regular cleaning to maintain the building's appearance and sustainability standards.

  • A tall glass parapet that made traditional anchor and rope access methods difficult to use safely and efficiently.

  • A large continuous roof area that required a system capable of servicing multiple façade locations without excessive setup time.

  • The need for a solution that could be moved and reconfigured quickly while minimising manual handling risks for rope access technicians.

The maintenance contractor, Sky5, needed an access system that would provide reliable rooftop access without adding unnecessary complexity to routine façade maintenance.

Our solution

Kattsafe supplied our Davit System to provide a dedicated rope access solution for the building's façade maintenance requirements.

Designed with the end user in mind, our Davit features a lightweight construction and a modular design consisting of three main components. This allows technicians to transport, assemble and reposition the system with minimal effort across the rooftop.

The Davit's extended reach and integrated mast anchor point allow rope access technicians to safely work over large parapets and delicate glass edges while maintaining confidence during setup and use. The system can be relocated between fixed Davit Bases installed across the roof, giving users access to large sections of the façade without constantly re-rigging their ropes.

Key benefits

Lightweight and Easy to Handle

Sky5 technicians highlighted the lightweight design as one of the system's biggest advantages.

It's really lightweight, which means safe. Easy to move around, easy to pull apart and put back together.

By reducing the physical effort required to transport and assemble the system, technicians can work more comfortably while lowering manual handling risks.

Improved Access Over Glass Parapets

The Davit's mast anchor point provides additional security when working near high glass parapets, helping technicians safely transition over delicate building edges.

According to the Sky5 team, this feature is particularly valuable when working around glass balustrades and sensitive architectural elements.

Faster Setup and Repositioning

With only three primary components, the system can be quickly assembled and reassembled between rooftop bases.

This allows maintenance teams to move efficiently around the building and complete façade access tasks without lengthy setup times.

Simple and Effective System Design

The straightforward design was well received by the Sky5 rope access team.

Having a system that is simple and effective, it really just covers all the bases.

The intuitive setup reduces complexity for technicians performing repetitive maintenance work and helps support safe, consistent operation.
